Week 10-12

Thanks for the experience of blogs, flicker, del.icio.us, library thing. I definitely have expanded my knowledge of what is on the web and so much more.

At our library, we have began to use our existing blog for communicating. It is a valuable tool if used. I would like to experiment with Wiki. We are getting a new computer at home that has the potential to use these tools more. I think my favorite week was Library thing. I liked adding books and plan on using that tool more. I have signed up for 2nd semester and I'm looking forward to learning more!

The process...hmm. I would love to see two weeks for each lesson but I realize that probably wouldn't work; it would make for a very long semester. It has affected me because there is so much potential on the Internet if used in the right way. I really liked learning new things but I also realize I might need another class just to learn the basics. Thanks for a great 1st semester and onto the next!

Week 9!

Well, I think I've completed the 1st semester. Yippee.

I found New London on Wikipedia, and I put in a direct link to the New London Library with Ann's help.

I think a wiki could work for discussions that I have with other librarians. It could provide central information and still be a working document. I am planning on setting up a wiki for my family as they aren't always accessible by phone.

Week 8

I added labels to my previous blogs and for any upcoming ones. I haven't explored del.icio.us yet, but I plan to in the near future.
There is a vast amount of information on del.ici.ous. It is overwhelming but at the same time if you could tag items for usefulness to the library it could become another tool for our patrons. I looked at Menasha's tags and found it useful. It would take time for someone to look at the different websites and then tag it, but I think it would be beneficial. Tags could be used on our websites for different programming, upcoming book releases and more. As far as the uncontrolled vocabulary; it wouldn't be unsettling to me as long as things were alphabetized and had some semblance of order.
I previewed del.icio.us. It is interesting.

week 7

Library thing is an interesting feature. I'm still feeling overwhelmed. Maybe I'll take a class to help me to become more confident posting my blogs, adding links etc.
I have some books on library thing but I haven't figured out how to tag. I'll need to keep working on this. A book that I recently read that had an impact on me is; Thousand Splendid Suns. If you haven't read this book, add it to your list of must reads.
Strength is the huge catalog of books to pull from, being able to personalize your library account, and the versatility that this cataloging system adds. Negatives; too much information! A book suggestion that they gave me was; Some wildflower in my heart by Jamie Langston Turner. Wow, I've done week 7, unto week 8.

Week 6

I added a picture. Thanks to Beth I feel more confident in Project Play. Kudos Beth for being such a great teacher and oh so much patience.
As far as uses at our library. I think the we could upload pics from our different programs so we could share these with our patrons. They could see what is happening at the library. It could be useful. Barriers is the fact that you need to upload the pics and use them. Favorite feature; I'm not sure as I haven't really explored it. It was really nice to find cool picture and have the ability to use them. Flickr has way too many images. Which can be good or bad...For me, it is a little much.

Try some

We recently tried these fruits. Granny Smith was great. Lemons provided pucker power. Oranges, oh so yummy. Now the Pomegranate that was a lot of work. My family told me to not bother buying another one. I see why pomegranate juice is so expensive. Good for you but a pain to eat! This photo found on Flickr shows you how much I love color too.

Updated

I updated my profile; now what?! This is a little out of my league...but I'm going to press on.
I could use the feedback by conversing with others, learning about others and expanding my friendships by utilizing blogs. Hmm, this could get interesting. A barrier would be the fact that I don't go online that often. I have to get ready for Christmas you know!

RSS feed; means death to my project play!!

I really thought that my project play life was ended...that is until I had a play date at the APL lab. Beth helped me. My mistake was that I thought that my RSS feed was connected to my blog. My mistake! Hopefully the time spent in the lab will give my project play new life.

Long Ride

My family went to Minneapolis this past week end. We said good-bye to family, enjoyed birthday cake with my nephew who turned one, and visited the Underwater Aquarium at the Mall of America. It was a very rainy week end! We enjoyed ourselves for the most part. What was really difficult was the very long ride! I think that is why we don't go to MPLS very often.
